Lasik (Laser in Situ Keratosmileusis)
LASIK surgery (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis) is the most commonly performed laser vision correction procedure. It is used to treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The surgeon uses anaesthetic drops in your eyes, creates a tiny entry to access the corneal tissue and then by using laser restore you vision. The procedure lasts aproximately 30 minutes and most patients notice a dramatic improvement in their eyesight with minimal discomfort. Healing occurs quickly.
Femto-Lasik (bladleless Lasik)
Femto – LASIK is a more advanced Technic of the LASIK procedure. It is tailored to the precise optic of the eye and gives you a greater chance of attaining 20:20 vision. The procedure lasts approximately 15 minutes, it is considered painless and of quick recovery.
PRK ( Photo Refractive Keratectomy)
Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK), is a laser refractive surgery. A laser is used to reshape the cornea, correcting eventual refractive errors such as myopia , hyperopia and astigmatism. PRK is a great option offered to patients who may not be ideal LASIK candidates due to thin or irregularly shaped corneas. The procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes and most patients can usually drive and return to work within 3 to 6 days after the surgery.
Corneal Transplant
A corneal transplant -also called keratoplasty (KP)- is the surgical removal of the central portion of the cornea replaced with tissue from a donor cornea. The procedure is performed when the cornea due to a disease or injury, results in scars or is damaged in such a way that it causes sight problems that eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery such as LASIK cannot correct. There are several types of corneal transplants performed to treat a variety of cornea condition. Depending on the kind of transplant you had, it can last approximately a year or more to fully recover from surgery.
Cataract Operations
Cataract is the clouding of the eye lens, causing blurred sight, which cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or corneal refractive surgery like LASIK. Most cataracts are associated with the aging process. Having a cataract surgery, using intraocular lens, can offer you with clear sight at any age. The procedure is painless, under local anaesthesia and it takes approximately 15 minutes to be completed. After the operation, your vision will not be immediately improved, which must not worry you, but it will start be improving just a few hours after the operation, reaching its optimum level within 4-6 weeks. The technique used by your surgeon depends on many factors. In your pre-operative consultation, you will discuss all the details about the different kinds of cataract surgery and which exactly is best suitable to your needs.
Glaukoma
Trabeculectomy is the most common glaucoma surgery performed when treatment with medications or laser techniques (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty), have failed. The surgeon creates a passage in the sclera (the white part of the eye) for draining excess eye fluid. This passage is covered by a thin trap-door, that allows fluid to escape to a small reservoir just under the eye surface, hidden by the eyelid. Trabeculectomy surgery is often performed under local anaesthesia, though it may also be performed under general anaesthesia. The procedure lasts up to 45 to 60 minutes. The sight may be particularly blurred for a couple of weeks and then start to improve. It can take two to three months for the sight to stabilise completely.
